Magic 8
We had a three-day turnaround on the data assignment, so I came up with something I could put together quickly. I found a JSON file with magic 8-ball answers (thank you jfraboni) and created a simple magic 8 site.
This week we are making something out of two materials. For my pcomp midterm we are adding joysticks to a game I built in ICM, so I decided to use this assignment to build a box for the joysticks and other hardware.
I installed the kombucha chandelier at home this weekend. The chandelier hangs on a thin wall (about 3′ wide) in the kitchen/dining room from two chains about two inches off the wall. Here are some photos.
Our assignment this week was to use the DOM library of P5js. I’ve been wanting to integrate HTML and CSS into my ICM work for a while, so I was surprised at how frustrating I found this assignment.
I had a lot of fun working on this lab. It’s nice to see the Arduino input really come to life. I had a few questions.

Oh man. The best thing about ITP: whenever you’re in a bind, someone with the exact skill you don’t have, but desperately need, sits down right next to you. The worst thing about ITP, everything you think you will do in an hour, takes a few days.
Ok, I promise I’ll stop using the assignments to work on Trumpong soon, but the past few assignments have fit so perfectly into developing the game, that it’s hard to resist.
This week’s intro to fab assignment was to make something on the laser cutter. My first idea (inspired by Paula and Ella’s work from last week) was to make a psychedelic mobile.
This week I played around with the servo and analog output labs. I went to the junk shelf and found a little pinwheel to put on my servo. I mapped my potentiometer up to my servo motor through the Arduino so the pinwheel moves when you move the knob of the potentiometer.
This week’s ICM assignment was to use functions in a new or existing program. I chose to revise and continue work on Trumpong!
